There is Ken Roczen’s first victory of the year in the AMA Supercross 450 in Glendale. The Suzuki rider was the strongest from start to finish and led the 20 laps at State Farm Stadium to secure his first win of the season in the main events, on a day when the championship lead changed, now being held by Jett Lawrence.
The main event immediately highlighted Roczen, who managed to get the holeshot, with Aaron Plessinger and Jason Anderson in pursuit. Jett Lawrence was facing some difficulties, as he faced some challenges in the first lap, briefly going off track due to Cooper Webb’s aggressiveness.
Plessinger initially held onto second position for two laps, but had difficulties and dropped to 19th after a front-end washout. Roczen increased his lead to two seconds over Anderson, with Eli Tomac trailing by another three seconds. Webb’s strong maneuver on Vince Friese triggered a series of position changes, allowing Hunter Lawrence, Jett Lawrence, Chase Sexton, Dylan Ferrandis, and Malcolm Stewart to pass.
Jett Lawrence gradually approached Webb, securing fourth place by skillfully navigating the whoops, which seemed to disturb Webb. After Jett and his brother Hunter advanced, Ferrandis and Sexton quickly passed Webb, pushing him back to eighth place.
Plessinger was on the rise, recovering from 19th place and gradually gaining positions until reaching the top 10 with seven minutes remaining in the race, overtaking Justin Cooper. In the final part of the race, Jett Lawrence continued to gain ground on Eli Tomac, managing to move up to third place with four minutes to go.
Chase Sexton seemed to be somewhat limited, perhaps due to the fall he had in the training session prior to the race, with the rider struggling more in the final phase of the race, allowing Webb and Malcolm Stewart to pass him.
In the end, Ken Roczen secured his first victory of 2024, crossing the finish line ahead of Anderson, Jett Lawrence, Tomac, and Hunter Lawrence.
