With the benefit of development concessions, Honda has radically changed its MotoGP bike for 2024. The manufacturer is looking to recover the path to success, taking steps in that direction.
When asked about the major change in the new RC213V, team director Alberto Puig explained: ‘The bike has changed a lot. To give you an idea, to reduce the weight of the bike, you have to redesign many things, many parts of the bike, because they were there for a reason and suddenly you decide to remove them. So, the bike remodeling work was very exhaustive and in a very short time. At the engine level, everything inside was redesigned, which is also very difficult. Sometimes it’s easier to make a new engine from scratch than to improve one you already have. So, a lot of work had to be done on the bike‘.
Although there are already many differences, Puig promised that the Honda bike will evolve even further throughout 2024: ‘As is evident, this is the prototype we have now and throughout the season we will evolve and develop it. That is one of the foundations we rely on and probably this bike you see now in September/October, there will have been some important evolutions that we need and we will continue to work on and develop the bike‘.
