Yamaha has introduced further developments to its motorcycle for the 2024 MotoGP season, but it is still not in the position it aims to reach. The path to recovery of competitiveness is long and arduous, despite the encouraging signs that are beginning to emerge. Álex Rins and Fabio Quartararo are the riders for the season starting in March in Qatar.
The team director, Massimo Meregalli, revealed to the official championship website that there were key aspects that deserved more focus: ‘The three main areas we worked on the most were the engine, aerodynamics, and we also introduced a new rear start device. All of these items were confirmed and approved by all the riders: Cal [Crutchlow], Fabio, and Álex. The bike is faster, the aerodynamics are starting to help the rider turn, and the rear start device is giving us less wheelie during acceleration’.
According to the Italian, there is still more room for improvement and he emphasized that this work will be done throughout the year: ‘Now, if I have to point out an area where we should improve, it is definitely qualifying. It is true that there is still a margin we have to close. We will have plenty of time during this season to work hard and shorten it more and more, but we are not very worried’.
