David Alonso clinched victory at the Moto3 Indonesian GP this Sunday, marking his ninth win of the season. With five races remaining, if Alonso wins three of them, he will break a record currently held by Valentino Rossi.
In 1997, Il Dottore, won 11 races in what was then the smallest class of the World Championship, the 125cc. If Alonso secures three more victories, he will set a new record with 12 wins in a single season in the smallest class.
Looking solely at the Moto3 era, which began in 2012, the CFMOTO Aspar rider needs just one more victory to equal the highest number of wins in a single season – Joan Mir’s ten wins in 2017.
With his latest win in Mandalika, Alonso has also equaled the all-time record for the most wins by a Moto3 rider: 13, a record set by the controversial Romano Fenati in 2021.
