It is fair to say that in the last ten years or so, Triumph has stood out in the world of off-road and adventure motorcycles. From the abundance (and rather confusing range) of Tiger 800 models, to the latest 900 and 1200, and more recently, their involvement in the motocross world with the TF 250-X.
However, there is a small gap in the current range, and that is something that several websites think Triumph is trying to fill. Although they have the Tiger 1200 and the 900 Rally Pro at the top of the range, there is nothing in the sub-700cc adventure range from the Hinckley brand. We do have the Tiger Sport 660, of course, but with its sport touring designation, road suspension, and electronics, it could never be considered a rival to bikes like the Yamaha Tenere 700, Aprilia Tuareg 660, or the KTM 790 Adventure.
This is a significant amount of sales that Triumph seems to be ignoring, and that’s where a new motorcycle comes in. Many claim that Triumph is working on a new Tiger 660 Rally, and given that the British brand already has the aforementioned Tiger Sport 660 on the road, it doesn’t take much imagination to see what it could be like.
The 660cc inline three-cylinder engines from Triumph are doing a lot of work for the brand right now, with the engines residing in the Trident 660, the aforementioned Tiger Sport 660, and the recently announced Daytona 660. With A2 compatibility available, the inline three-cylinder engine in a slightly more robust and off-road prepared motorcycle seems like an extremely attractive prospect.
To fuel further speculation, one of Triumph’s subsidiaries shared news on this very subject. The Facebook page of Triumph Motorcycles Mumbai shared a post last week pointing to the model’s launch in 2024 and the possibility of seeing the motorcycle at this year’s EICMA motorcycle show in Milan. If we understand it correctly, it seems like a fairly safe bet that Triumph may be preparing a new ADV motorcycle right now.
