Álex Márquez and Pedro Acosta secured their spots in Q2! Both riders were always among the fastest, but it was Álex who ultimately stole the show from Raúl Fernández, ensuring his place among the fastest in the category.
Here is the first Q1 in the MotoGP’s return to action, and the question was: who would secure a spot in Q2? Franco Morbidelli, Raúl Fernández, Pedro Acosta, Álex Márquez, Miguel Oliveira, Fabio Quartararo, Johann Zarco, Luca Marini, Augusto Fernández, Joan Mir, Taka Nakagami, and Remy Gardner were ready to attack!
With the first fast laps coming in, Acosta took the lead with 1:58.702s, ahead of Morbidelli, but the Italian was beaten by R. Fernández, with a lap time of 1:59.007s.
The session continued at a good pace and halfway through, Á. Márquez was already leading, but Acosta fought back and regained the lead by setting a lap time of 1:58.651s. Then came the usual pit stop to finalize the final details.
With approximately three minutes left, the riders headed back to the British circuit, and Raúl Fernández was setting red sector times. He has the RS-GP 24 at his disposal and immediately showed that he is making the most of it: after setting red sector times, the Spanish rider took the lead in the session, but… only for a short time: Acosta, once again, set the fastest lap and was in the lead, provisionally securing his spot in Q2.
Fernández was back on the attack, but in the end, he narrowly missed improving his time and, worse, saw Á. Márquez take the lead and push him out of Q2.
La Q1 terminó poco después con Á. Márquez y Acosta asegurando la posibilidad de luchar por la pole position.
